As much as we are told to wait upon God and to wait patiently, we find ourselves still battling with how to begin to receive when our blessings are finally released from the spiritual realm. Lately, I have heard the quote "expect the unexpected' a few times in my waiting season. It can be hard because we are told to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). We are to live each day expecting from God what He has promised us. Waiting can be difficult, but God does not want us to give up no matter how long the wait seems to be. I came across a scripture in Psalms 5:3, it says "In the morning Oh Lord you hear my voice, in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation". Waking up in the morning, our prayers and requests should be the first order of the day. When we have given God our request, what we need Him to do whether spiritual or physical, we are suppose to wait expecting it will come. If we are not expecting something to come to us we will not see anything coming. 1 John 5:14-15 also says "This is the confidence we have in approaching God, that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us. And if we know He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of Him. We have to keep believing that those things we are about to receive is already on its way. So how can we begin to expect those things God has promised. One, wait in anticipation. Wait like a child that was promised ice cream for dessert from the ice cream truck. My daughter loves ice cream from the truck, so she would keep going to the front door looking down the street, listening for the music the ice cream truck makes. Sometimes the music is faint and far but her face says it all. She knows no matter how long the ice cream truck takes to arrive, its coming, and she is excited in the wait because she is in anticipation mode. Two, be in a posture ready to receive. While my daughter is anticipating the ice cream truck, she gets dress in the meantime. She gets her shoes on and she gets the money needed to purchase the ice cream but ever so often she peeks down the street, listening as the music becomes louder and closer. She looks out for the signs that the truck is closer to the house. God will also gives signs that your blessings is getting close. Sometimes He allows us to be tested to see if we are ready for it. Thirdly, always say thank you before receiving. It is having an awareness that you are receiving something. When my daughter asked if she can get ice cream, she will say thank you gleefully, before ever getting the money or the ice cream. She heard yes from either me or her grandparents, so that's all she needs in order to say thank you. God wants us to give thanks in all circumstances(1 Thessalonians 5:16) and He says its a good thing to give thanks to the Lord (Psalm 92:1), including before receiving what He has promised. Lastly, preparation for receiving. Being obedient is the preparation. My daughter is given instructions before going to the ice cream truck, put on your shoes and have the money needed to purchase the ice cream, She is also told when she gets outside, to wait until the truck stops before approaching. All these are instructions that should be obeyed in order to receive the ice cream that was promised. To receive from God during our waiting season we must anticipate, be in a posture ready to receive, give thanks before receiving and preparing to receive. God has some good things for us but He wants to know that we are willing and able to handle them. Keep believing in those things God has promised. Dream big and imagine big because we serve a big God. God is able to do the impossible ( Matthew 19:26), God is able to do far more than we can ever think or imagine ( Ephesians 3:20) because no eyes have seen, no ears have heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9-10). Wake up each day expecting big. Give Him thanks, for the supernatural is ready to be poured into the natural.
