The Message Behind The Tee!

Welcome everyone to the message behind the tee. Philippians 2:3- 11 says "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others. In your relationship with one another have the same mindset as Christ Jesus. Who, being in very nature God did not consider equality with God, something to be used to His own advantages, rather He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled Himself, by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knees should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father." These passages of scriptures are calling us to imitate Christ's humility. But what does it mean to be humble? Oxford meaning "is having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance." Christ is a perfect example of someone who put aside his own importance and taking on servant hood. Servants think in terms of the benefits others will receive from themself serving rather than, how serving will benefit them. Christ is calling us to adopt that same servant attitude like He had. If anyone on earth deserved to have his feet washed and pampered daily, it would be Jesus, because He was God in flesh, but He said He came not to be served but to serve. Now many would say I don't like the idea of serving, I prefer to be served. But being a servant is a principle in the Kingdom of God. Not that we are slaves to no one but we are called to be a humble servant. The blessings are in being able to serve others. humility is knowing and understanding your position and power but you are able to have self control and submitting to others. As great as Jesus was He was reachable and touchable. We see in scriptures so often, Jesus found time to serve others through healing, teaching and sharing, and by doing these, lives were transformed.  Mark 10:45 says " For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve , and give His life as a ransom for many." A great example was Zacchaeus, no one wanted to have anything to do with him because he was a tax collector and a thief. He sought to see Jesus but Jesus saw him instead. Jesus invited Himself to Zacchaeus' home where he ate with Him.  And because of that, Zacchaeus' life was transformed. The woman with the issue of blood only thought if she could touch the tail of Jesus' clothes, she would be healed from her twelve years of suffering. She must have saw Jesus before, for her to think it was possible to get close to Him. When she did, her healing came and Jesus found time to console her and let her know she was healed. Why should we be humble? The Word says we should imitate Christ and Jesus was a humble man. Humility puts us aside and place God in the high place. Humility open doors of blessings, favors, promotions and opportunities from God. Humility doesn't allow pride to take resident in our lives. No matter how high God takes us, we are to go deeper in Him, firmly rooted. How can we have humility or remain humble? It is a self check everyday of how we speak and treat others. Submission and obedience are two ways to self check your behavior and attitude. Jesus always put the Father as the authoritative figure in his life, the higher One He submitted to. Jesus always said, "I say what my Father say and do what my Father do." Verse 8 says "He humble Himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Christ knew He was God, and had power to do whatever He wanted but He stayed humble and fulfilled the Father's will. In conclusion humility is NOT self praised, NOT self gain, NOT self interest and NOT self sufficiency. It's doing what 1 Peter 4:9-11 says, "Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve other as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various form. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serve, they should do so with strength God provides so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and power forever and ever, Amen. It is about serving others and God getting the praise through Jesus Christ. When we have a servant attitude, we will have a humble spirit. No matter how far or how high God takes you, remember who got you there. A preacher once said, how did the turtle get to the top of the fence? The answer is, someone had to put it there. Humility is never forgetting God's love, grace and mercy in your life. Our heavenly Father we thank you that you can show us how to be humble. Allow us to always remember that whatever we do and say must represents who you are. Let us be Christ imitators of your love and compassion towards others by serving our time, gifts and treasures. Teach us how to humble ourselves and in due season you will lift us up. We give you all the glory, honor and praise which is due unto your name, In Jesus' Name.
