I must say I enjoyed my birthday weekend with close friends, there were a few hiccups but God is good. I am learning when there are hiccups God is using that situation to see our reaction, either we react Godly or ungodly. We always choose. There are lessons to be learned in everything. Last week we looked at what the Good Book said about marriage/dating and our finances. We also learn that the Holy Spirit gives specifications in our life choices if we ask Him (remember He's a Gentleman). Let us look at another example....FRIENDSHIP or having friends. What does the Bible say about that area? Proverbs 27:17 says " Iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another". If your friends are not helping you grow so that you become a better person... I guess you need to re-evaluate that friendship, I'm just saying. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says 'Bad company corrupts good character", this simply means a bad apple spoils the whole bunch. Another scripture says "A good friend is closer than a brother"-Proverbs 18:24, imagine that... the Bible teaches us the level of closeness a friend is suppose to be. If that friend is not sticking with you despite situations or problems you know what you got to do. But the Bible does not name the friends you should have, but we have the Holy Spirit to help us discern the good ones from the bad ones. I must say I thank God for really good friends in my life. The Bible is a tool that is needed for foundational life development in all areas of life. Even in BUSINESS the Bible guides you. It tells us not to take bribes, not to be greedy for money and that a false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight (Proverbs 20:10 & Proverbs 11:1). Proverbs 16:9 says"Commit your plans (business plans) to the Lord and He will order your steps (the way to go about it through the Holy Spirit's guidance). So you see, we need the two most important resources in every area of our lives. It is not going to be easy but if you make a commitment to have a real relationship with Him He says in Matthew 11:28-30 (I love the message version) " Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with Me and you will recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me, watch how i do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly". Isn't that Awesome?
